AAH-CHOO!

In Chicago, the weather can go from Summer to mid-winter within 24 hours. Shorts and tank tops can turn quickly into a coat and a hat.

For me, the summer went by too quickly. I did not create my garden. I did not go down to Texas to see my girlfriend and family. I did not get my hitch for my car to take the boys on new bike trails. Instead I feel like struggled with work-life balance. I did not have the energy to go beyond the call of duty with my 9 to 5 nor venture out past my neighborhood.

My big 5-0 came and went without much fanfare.

As soon as I stepped over the birthday/solar return threshold, everything started popping off. I blink and it's October!!! I'm sitting in my office with a jacket on, sipping on some chai, and reflecting....

It's time to get ready for the WINTER!

I've been keeping an eye on my most volatile child. There are several things that we add into our regimen as soon as I notice some changes.

  1. Vitamin D/K2 supplement in liquid form - the darker you are, the deficient you are. This combination helps build your defenses up as the days get shorter and we stay indoors more.

  2. Magnesium - I have purchased a spray to have quicker absorption into the body through the skin. You can use as a natural deodorant. You can rub it into your feet or the back of your neck. Be CAREFUL! The more deficient you are, it will be ITCHY.

  3. Homemade Elderberry syrup

  4. Diffuser with eucalyptus essential oil to keep the sinuses clear

  5. Air purifier

  6. Herbal Teas - My top 3 picks are:

    • Mullein - respiratory system

    • Moringa - daily vitamin

    • Rooibos - night time soother - the children love it! Add raw honey and a dash of raw sugar. YUM!

My tolerance for over-the-counter cold medications has consistently been a ZERO. The dyes and chemical formulation cause blood pressure drops, panic attacks, and racing heart rate. We have made a habit to support the body versus fighting against what your body wants to naturally do. This includes fasting while ill and your body can only tolerate liquids. Allowing the body to "sweat it out".

I am stalking my go-to herbal warehouse. They are out of stock on some key items. So, I'm reaching out to my back-up plan. I will be making custom herbal packages for clients. If you are interested in this type of service, let me know! If you're in the Chicagoland area, I have office hours on Sundays from 3-7pm. Let me know if you want to stop by for a consultation. My office is a work in progress but open for clients!

Yes, I feel you. It turned from summer to winter overnight here too. I must try the Rooibos. I never heard of it 🤔. Thanks for sharing!
