Cough, cough...

A couple of weeks ago, we FINALLY cleaned up the garage and the basement. The purge took a few days. We live in an old house and our basement reflects the age. We have never really needed it as living space so it has been a catch-all for a little more than just bicycles and our second refrigerator.

The entire family bonded and got dirty. More importantly, we let go of the broken and unused. We were set free from the scary monsters. We let go of the past. We made space for the future home and business projects. We made space for ourselves.

Right when we were excited and rubbing our hands together planning the next "thing", the smoke came rolling in....

The one thing we did NOT do was panic. I mentioned that our house is OLD. We have old school radiator heat with no central air. When we moved into the house about 15 years ago, we considered adding air conditioning. We went to open houses and observed how other homeowners worked around the obstacle. The cost did not justify the few days when we really needed a cooler climate. Despite allergies and other sensitivities, we manage through warmer, high pollen days with no major issues. Momma opens up her toolkit and we work it out. Who knows? Maybe we have simply built up our immunity to certain things.

When the smoke came in, it would have be easier to close the windows, run air conditioning and air purifiers, and let filtration do all the heavy lifting. We did not have that luxury. So, what did we do? We kept all the fans going for air circulation. I ramped up water rich fruit and vegetables for the boys. Made mullein tea beverages. Most importantly we stayed calm. We did not stop life. We stayed inside as much as possible but we still had things to do. Even when the youngest woke up with a migraine in the middle of the night, I went with the flow. I could not find any of my special oils for him, so I improvised with a different healing blend. We found our tonal music on Spotify that helps with stress and headaches. After about 30 minutes or so, he was still struggling. I cracked opened up my reflexology book, brushed up on a few techniques, and went to work on a couple of key pressure points on his feet. After about 5 minutes or so, he relaxed and fell asleep. (Yes, I reordered his oils and have enough for him to have his own stash in his room.)

Overall, we made it through the poor air quality days fairly unscathed. The rain came down and the sky has cleared. Then, the oldest started coughing. Coughing is the body's way of expelling toxins. So, we have learned do not stop it but support it with supplements. He is back on his special throat tea, a liquid vitamin D supplement, and my FAVORITE Chinese herbal cough syrup. It is thick as molasses and tastes like a combination of mint, licorice, and honey. Technically, I should do the diet protocol but to convince the boy to give up cold items in 80 plus degree weather is nearly impossible. A boy is gonna do what the boy is gonna do. Hopefully, we can simmer this down and push through the summer without any other flare ups! From my lips to God's ears, keep that smoke in Canada.

Hugs and Love!

Hi!

Thanks for sharing! I visited NYC a few days ago, and the haze is still there, but I had a ball. I'm also filling up on fruit, and will make mullein tea today. Please share your special recipe😋. I'm glad that you all are doing well, and was able to tackle the basement. I'm pulling bags and boxes from the attic slowly 😂. How much burning can they be doing in Canada 🤔. Anyway, enjoy your summer!

Greetings sis! Mullein is so soft and light that I add it to ANYTHING. Any tea that you're drinking for the day add it in. I buy Throat Soother tea by Yogi which has the herb already in it but I add more for a boost to help my oldest. I added it to my moringa. My youngest was drinking it with roobios. Mullein is super versatile!
