Over the last five years, I have met a wonderful group of spiritual people. All of us have different interests and different backgrounds with common beliefs and practices. One commonality is our desire for better health. We have explored fasts, detoxes, and other lifestyle changes. Many of us have home herbal cabinets. One controversial herb is cannabis.
My best childhood friend reached out to me one day to learn more about hemp/cannabidiol (CBD) and a company she joined as an advocate. She is my homegirl and we have a very long history. Our story begins on our first day of kindergarten. Forty-five years later and many miles apart. We are back to being partners in crime. Like myself, she has tapped into holistic practices and studied Yoga. She is helping others to create wellness in their everyday lives.
"Momma, you're selling marijuana!"
Uhhh no, I'm not. Don’t get me wrong. Both come from the same species, cannabis sativa. They both have healing properties and commonly used for relaxation and pain relief.
The key difference is that CBD made from HEMP is non-psychoactive. In other words, it does NOT make you "high" and does not alter your perception. The high in marijuana comes from tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). CBD has a low percentage of THC (less than 0.3%). Marijuana contacts over 0.3% THC and low cannabidiol (CBD).
If you do enjoy marijuana, I recommend using it as an herbal therapy (making a tea, using it in food, or creating a tincture) versus smoking it. Much like tobacco, once you burn it, you change the chemical composition of it and it may become toxic to your body.
CBD can help the following:
Chronic pain (including arthritis)
Inflammation
Insomnia
Appetite
Anxiety
Epilepsy
Addiction – lower cravings for tobacco, stimulants, opiates
Pure CBD causes no effects of abuse or dependence. There are testimonies of people coming off medications with regular, consistent use of CBD. Most importantly, it is safe for children and pets.
As with any herbal remedy or supplement, every thing is trial and error. Each person is a unique individual with different needs. Health and wellness are not a one size fits all program. You may have to try different things to see what works for you! CBD is a great addition to have in your home tool kit.
