Stress...

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

Where the mind goes, the body flows.

For the most part, I am a fairly content, calm person. Push enough of my buttons and Hurricane April wants to come in and destroy everything in its path. My patience has its limits. My rational thinking and problem solving skills fly out the window. An individual can only tolerate so much.

The key question is how do you take yourself back down from that hurricane. There are several things that I do to help me come out of my fury and frustration. Many of these tactics help me stay grounded from the very beginning.

  1. I practice basic deep breathing. I remind myself that I can only control myself and not other people. It may take a minute or two! My Reiki training has shown me a couple of other techniques which are great with meditation to help a overactive mind calm down.

  2. Take a walk. This is the plus side to having dogs. They love an impromptu outdoor excursion.

  3. Call a friend. Chose someone who will be unbiased and will allow you to vent.

  4. Cry. As someone wise once said, "I'll give you 10 minutes. Any longer than that, there is something more going on." FACTS! Are you depressed? Are you taking a new medication? Are you in an abusive relationship? If there is something more going on, get professional assistance. This leads to:

  5. GET HELP! If you're struggling with school, work, your relationship, finances, ask for help! Most people are more than willing to find ways to help you get the resources required.

  6. Use essential oils like lavender or lemon balm. Please keep in mind that not all oils work on people in the same way. Lavender for one person may be calming and for someone else it may cause them to be more anxious.

  7. Practice self care. Walk away. Get a massage or a foot rub. Take a nap. Journal. Pray. Meditate. Exercise.

  8. Elminate the person(s), place, or things that are causing the stress. Do not turn back. Dysfunction is difficult to improve. Why? Some people do not want to do the work which can create a toxic environment or situation. If you cannot walk way, you have to do the internal work to strengthen your inner spirit to withstand the challenges.

  9. Don't take things personal. What if it's not YOU? It's THEM? Many times we take upon other people's issues and traumas. Stop it!

Stress can cause a host of ailments from digestive issues to high blood pressure. How stress manifests depends on the individual. Our bodies are made to manage stress, but not for long term. Find ways to manage it and live life with EASE!

Hugs and love!

I take long walks, listen to my favorite music while cleaning or make a new dish 😉 to release stress.
