Water Fast H-E-L-L

Seriously, what was I thinking about doing a water fast? I had all good intentions at completing 3 days of drinking water and herbal teas. I bought the electrolytes and I was mentally prepared. This was my 3rd try at it. I made it through but here are my observations:

A water fast is a great way to reset yourself wholistically.

Do you want to cut process foods, sugar, and other dietary habits? Go on a water fast.

Do you want to incorporate prayer, meditation, and breathwork? Go on a water fast.

Do you want to jump-start your body's healing process? Go on a water fast.

If you are under a doctor's care, always consult with him or her before moving forward. I have no medical issues. I just needed to throw this one in here. This is IMPORTANT.

For months, I knew I needed to go beyond intermittent fasting and do something a little more aggressive. Why? I was feeling sluggish and needed mental clarity. I've picked up a few pounds that in the past would be easy to lose...thanks to menopause. I was experiencing some inflammation in my hips, ankles, and feet. I was receiving therapy but I knew that a 3 day water fast would knock it out.

Those electrolytes that "professionals" say are oh so wonderful. Were NOT.

Did the water fast help me reach my goals? Yes and NO!

I still have some hip pain but as I continue to rotate fasting protocols, it will continue to ease.

I lost a few pounds. Unfortunately, my digestive got sluggish really quickly. I blame the electrolytes. Drinking the elctrolytes made me thirsty but I STRUGGLED to drink water. It felt counterintuitive. Instead of feeling hydrated, I felt DRY. If I do any type of water fast in the future, I will stick to lemon or lime water with a splash of sea salt. This option is much more hydrating and will not break a water fast. Did I cut down on the sugary drinks and snack food? Sure a bit.

To totally change old, bad habits, a 3 day water fast is not enough. The average person needs at least 30 to 60 days to detox. If you are 50 years old and have been eating fast and junk food all your life you might need a year of consistency with whole food clean eating. Where ever you are in the journey, it can be done. It just takes patience and find what works for you. It is never to late for true healing.

I prefer spring water. If accessibility or resources are an issue, filtered water is fine. Herbs would vary by individual depending on what they need but my go-tos are simple: Moringa, Sour Sop, and Pau d'Arco.

Hey!

Thank you for your honest observation. I was considering a 3-day water or juice fast. I will make a decision within the next day or so. Enjoy your day!😍

I would suggest drinking nothing but smoothies, juices, or eating something like watermelon a day or two beforehand. If you need anything else, please let me know.
